I got a cookie for you
and you can eat it
cause…
I have some cookies
for myself
one for you and one for me
two
a really big one
and I eat it
and…
[hunchback crane dance*]
I ate some cookies.
I got to get some cookies and
decorate ‘em.
*Performance element described as acurately as possible
(Thanks to Todd, Angie, Brennan and Zion Fadel for making the evening of Christmas cookie decorating that inspired this poem possible.)

Poem For The Week (Assignment From the Calendar of Lovely Things To Do)
Little Dog's Rhapsody in the Night (Percy Three)
by Mary Oliver
He puts his cheek against mine
and makes small, expressive sounds.
And when I'm awake, or awake enough
he turns upside down, his four paws
in the air
and his eyes dark and fervent.
Tell me you love me, he says.
Tell me again.
Could there be a sweeter arrangement? Over and over
he gets to ask it.
I get to tell.
